KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has urged all Malaysians to support World Number One Datuk Lee Chong Wei in his first World Badminton Championships men's singles final on Sunday in London.
Najib, in his Twitter account, said that he and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, who is the patron of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), had spoken to Chong Wei to express their support.
"All Malaysians should support Lee Chong Wei in the final of the World Championships today. My wife and I spoke to him to give our support," he said.
Chong Wei will meet his nemesis, Lin Dan of China, who reached the men's singles final after defeating Peter Gade Christensen of Denmark, 22-24, 21-7, 21-15 in 75 minutes.
In the other semi-final on Saturday, Chong Wei turned on the power to send defending champion Chen Jin of China packing 21-13, 21-9 in 44 minutes at the Wembley Arena.
Chong Wei is the second Malaysian to reach the men's singles final after Wong Choon Hann, who made the breakthrough in Birmingham in 2003. Wong lost to China's Xia Xuanze in the final. - Bernama
