About the sport of ‘Foot Shuttlecock’
Da Cau (Vietnamese) or Jianzi (Chinese)

Foot Shuttlecock or ‘Da Cau’ is a fast, energetic and fun sport and has been played throughout Asia at competitive level for years.
Now Foot Shuttlecock is available in Australia and is destined to be the sport of the future.
Easy to play with very few rules the object of the sport is to keep the ‘Foot Shuttlecock’ from hitting the ground (you can even use your hands if you want, although that is not in the official rules).
The sport originated in China around 5BC, and for thousands of years it has been a favourite sport and activity of children and adults all over Asia.
In 1936 Foot Shuttlecock (Jianzi) was introduced to Europe when a Chinese athlete from the province of Jiangxu performed a demonstration at the Olympic Games in Berlin. Germany and other European countries were so excited by the new sport that they began to learn and play Foot Shuttlecock.
The World Foot Shuttlecock Championship is an annual event that has been held since 1999 when the International Shuttlecock Federation (ISF) was founded. Previous to that various countries took turns to organise the championships.
The game of Foot Shuttlecock resembles Badminton except that it is played without rackets. By using various parts of the body (but not your hands) the shuttlecock must be kept from touching the ground. It is most commonly balanced and propelled upwards using parts of the leg, especially the feet.
Foot Shuttlecock has been included as a sport in the Southeastern Asiatic Games of 2003. China dn Vietnam are considered the leading teams in the sport.
